About

Share A Book, India started as a campaign to make sure that reading books in school for pleasure isn't considered a luxury but a necessity! We have grown as an organisation with a simple motto in mind to enable each child to read, imagine and grow to her fullest potential. We are determined to revolutionize education through the process of reading, as we believe that it is the only instrument, which can make learning easier for children, improve the quality of education, reduce student dropout rates, as well as fight social evils like child labour, child marriage etc., simultaneously.

OUR IMPACT

Registered in December 2020, Share A Book India Association (SABIA) is committed towards building a reading community that is socially and environmentally responsible. We strive to gift the power of imagination and equal opportunity to every child including those with special needs so that everyone can gain perspective and be a productive member of the society.

We are proud to announce that SABIA is currently working across India in 145 schools located in 13 states and 3 UTs (Delhi, Kashmir and Ladakh), with over 25,000 children learning through our library development and reading programs.

We are also determined to develop braille/audio libraries in schools for children with special needs. We are already in talks to establish our first such library in Kota, Rajasthan.

GET INVOLVED

Volunteers across India from diverse backgrounds have joined this reading movement initiated by us. They are given challenging roles to fulfil during their time as Youth Leaders of SABIA. Volunteers are required to dedicate their time to the cause every Saturday and hold regular story-telling sessions with schoolchildren of the third standard and above. Our volunteers help set up libraries and train students and teachers as members of library committees. Formalizing the library system is crucial to making books accessible to children in a regular manner.

Working Towards a Better Tomorrow

Coronavirus has deeply affected the field of education. With schools being closed for the last 1.5 years and with the shift to
an online medium of education, the inequalities have risen and deepened all around the world and especially in India. The survey conducted by Share A Book India Association (SABIA) is our effort to understand the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on teachers and a number of schools across different regions in India.
